Hans-Olaf Henkel, Vice-Chair of the European Conservative and Reformists Group, claimed MEPs were enjoying the fact that there were lots of negative effects of Brexit on the UK economy. 

Speaking prior to the EU summit, Mr Henkel said he would like to remind all European politicians that Europe will suffer “at least as much as Britain” after Brexit. 

He said: “Because in my strong opinion, Europe will never be complete. 

“Europe will never be a competitive Europe without Great Britain.” 

Mr Henkel said he is “disappointed” by Brexit. He said: “We are losing not only a good trading partner but we are losing 73 people in this Parliament.” 

Mr Henkel demanded Donald Tusk offer Britain with a different kind of Brexit. He said: “We have to stop two trains running on the same track together because this is going to be a real catastrophe. 

“Brexit is a lose-lose situation for both, for Britain and for the EU. That’s why I believe it must be Brussels.” 

"It must be Mr Tusk himself who should try to offer Britain a new deal. A new deal to avoid Brexit.”  

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker agreed on Friday enough progress has been made on key Brexit issues in order to move on to trade talks.

But Theresa May was forced to make concessions in order to seal a deal with the EU and it has left some Brexit voters furious. 

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage called the agreement a “humiliation” and hit out at those who called it a “victory”.

He said: “It’s a victory if you think paying away a gargantuan sum of money is a good thing, if you think giving foreign courts jurisdiction over this country for nearly up to a decade to come is a good thing.”
