Speaking to reporters after meeting Purohit and presenting him a memorandum, Stalin said, "I have explained to the governor the intense damage caused by cyclone Ockhi to the people of Kanyakumari district and requested him to declare the locality as disaster-hit."
He said that he told Purohit that the AIADMK government did not have the exact details of fishermen who went missing in the cyclone. "I requested him to direct the government to take enough steps to rescue the missing fishermen and to provide relief measures to the affected people. He has assured to do the needful," Stalin said.
Alleging that the relief measures which were taken so far were inadequate, Stalin alleged that chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who visited the southern district on Tuesday, just did a survery for the sake of it.
"He should first implement the schemes that were announced for the welfare of the fishermen," the former deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu said.
