India level the series emphatically with a 141-run win over Sri Lanka in Mohali. It was a disciplined bowling effort from India but this would be remembered as Rohit Sharma’s match. Between the 40th and 50th over of the Indian innings, the Indian skipper went on a scoring spree that was so brutal one almost felt for the Sri Lankan bowlers. Sri Lanka are going through a crisis at the moment and there was little chance that they could have bounced back from a bludgeoning like that. This means that the final match in Visakhapatnam will be the decider.

India vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI Highlights:

1922 hrs IST: India beat Sri Lanka by 141 runs, level ODI series 1-1. Shreyas Iyer, of all people, bowled the last over but considering India had to defend around 144 runs in that over, he did a good job. Gave away just two runs and India seal as comprehensive a win as they ever could have hoped for after the Dharamsala dissapointment. The Indian players all run to Rohit Sharma. No matter how well any Indian bowler would have bowled today, the stand-in skipper’s innings would be a tough one to overshadow

1911 hrs IST: And then Mathews is dropped by Shikhar Dhawan at deep midwicket. Mathews drags it a bit to further than he wants and it was a low chance for Dhawan, he dives forward but is unable to get to it.

1906 hrs IST: Angelo Mathews gets his second ODI hundred. Both have now come in losing causes against India. Muted celebration from Mathews, understandably so and his team mates applaud him from the dressing room

1851 hrs IST: Sri Lanka get seven runs off the 44th over bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal. A good return considering the fact they were struggling to make even five in the prevuious overs. For a team chasing nearly 400 runs, Sri Lanka have been steady in their slowness. Meanwhile, this happened:

1846 hrs IST: A good day of cricket for India that might end in a victory for them but will it be the same in badminton? PV Sindhu takes on He Bingjiao in the BWF Super Series final in Dubai

1843 hrs IST: Angelo Mathews is closing in on what would be one of the most futile hundreds ever scored in ODI cricket. Interestingly, his previous hundred against India was also in a losing cause. Sri Lanka were batting first and he was the skipper in 2014 but his opposite number Virat Kohli, captaining the side in the absence of MS Dhoni helped India cancel out Sri Lanka’s total.

1836 hrs IST: GONE! Akila Dananjaya dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. This one was angling into the batsman’s body, who tucks it off his chest, straight to square leg where Rohit Sharma was standing

1832 hrs IST: 200 up for Sri Lanka, Mathews has made 81 off 99 balls, Akila Dananjaya giving him company. Sri Lanka are now batting it out, the required rate is now 19 runs per over. A little unrealisitic.

1816 hrs IST: Sri Lanka into the 190s but the important questions now on the telecast is which of Rohit Sharma’s double hundreds was the best one. That is how relevant this run chase is now.

1810 hrs IST: Angelo Mathews now on 66 but this has become an excercise in futility for Sri Lanka now. Their required run rate is over 13 and they simply don’t have any fire power left. Washington Sundar bowling his eighth over, Sri Lanka re 183/7, need 210 off 90

1804 hrs IST: GONE! Wickets galore now, Pathirana is the next man to go. Bhuvneshwar strikes and Shikhar Dhawan is the man with the catch. It was back of a length and slightly outside off and Pathirana hits it straight to Dhawan who slaps his thigh after taking the catch

1753 hrs IST: OUT! Thisara Perera follows Gunaratne after short stay at the crease, Chahal gets another. Perera swings at this one and it hits his pads and brushes his gloves as it went to the leg side Dhoni follows the ball and dives to complete the catch. Gets up holding his shoulder but with a smile on his face.

1747 hrs IST: GONE! Asela Gunaratne was taking the attack to the opposition and Chahal silences him. Gunaratne makes room to dispatch it to the offsid, misses it completely and Dhoni has the easiest of stumpings to complete

1738 hrs IST: A couple of switch hits and Gunaratne relieves some of the pressure for Sri Lanka. The 28th over bowled by Washington Sundar has gone for 16 runs. Sri Lanka do need almost every over to be at least like this one although that doesn’t look like a possibility at the moment.

1733 hrs IST: Mathews three runs away from his fifty now but Sri Lanka’s run rate refuses to budge beyond 5 runs per over. With 27 overs gone, the visitors are 134/4, need 259 runs with 23 overs

1723 hrs IST: India had also only managed to get to a score similar to Sri Lanka’s but they always had wickets in hand. Sri Lanka don’t have that at all. Angelo Mathews and Asela Gunaratne in the middle for the visitors now

Washington Sundar makes his debut for India Lahiru Thirimanne’s wicket and a catch to dismiss Niroshan Dickwella, it has been a good debut so far for Washington Sundar. (Source: AP)

1718 hrs IST: GONE! Chahal strikes, the pressure has been building on Sri Lanka and Dickwella succumbs. Chahal had bowled this one short and wide and Dickwella gets a thick outside edge to short third man, who is Washington Sundar, Sri Lanka crumbling now

1707 hrs IST: Sundar offers a lot of flight to Mathews outside off and the latter gets under and hits it over long-on for a six. Sri Lanka need more of that

1701 hrs IST: Niroshan Dickwella has replaced Thirmanne and has scored 13 off 11 balls. He pushed away the first delivery he faced to the boundary off Washington Sundar but his next boumdary comes only in the 18th over off Yuzvendra Chahal. The pressure is building on Sri Lanka as the run-rate climbs.

1647 hrs IST: GONE! Washington Sundar strikes, Thirimanne has to walk. Thirimanne tries to reverse sweep a delivery that is angling towards off stump, and it goes and finds its target. Captain Rohit Sharma pats Sundar’s head and the off spinner rather sheepishly readjusts his hair, India chipping away

1640 hrs IST: Sri Lanka are 57/2 as the 13th overs starts and it is bowled by off spinner Washington Sundar. Debut over for the youngster. It is a rather quiet six balls and three runs come off them

1620 hrs IST: Angelo Mathews tried to steal 2 runs off a Hardik Pandya delivery that rolled to third man after taking an outside edge. Dhoni stands behind the stumps as if to take the throw from the fielder but leaves in the last moment so that it goes and hit the stumps. Mathews had made his ground but that was some cheeky keeping from Dhoni

1613 hrs IST: WICKET! Jasprit Bumrah strikes and it’s wicket number two for India. Gunathilaka strangled down the leg side.  Easy catch for Dhoni!

1606 hrs IST: Six over bowled in the Sri Lanka innings. They are 26 for the loss of one wicket. Gunathilaka and Thirimanne at the crease

1558 hrs IST: WICKET! Hardik Pandya gives India the first wicket. Tharanga checks his shot at the last moment. The ball is wide and the soft shot goes straight to cover-point!

1457 hrs IST: DOUBLE CENTURY FOR ROHIT SHARMA! WHAT A STUNNING INNINGS FROM THE HITMAN! HE RUNS TWO TO COMPLETE THE FEAT. A SHOUT TO CELEBRATE IT. WOW!

1450 hrs IST: Two overs remaining, Rohit Sharma 183*. He is on strike to face Pradeep in the 49th over. Can he create the record?

1447 hrs IST: WICKET! MS Dhoni is gone. Thisara Perera with a slower delivery and Dhoni misses it completely. Plumb in front. Rohit Sharma still at the non-striker’s end

1444 hrs IST: Rohit Sharma is batting on 177* and three overs remaining in the Indian inning. Can he score a double century — his third in ODIs?

1437 hrs IST: MS Dhoni is the new man in for India. This can be dangerous for Sri Lanka. Rohit is batting well past 150 and Dhoni can hit at will.

1435 hrs IST: WICKET! Shreyas Iyer won’t reach his maiden ODI hundred. Perera foxes him with a slower delivery and he is caught at deep mid-wicket. Still a stunning inning of 88 runs off 70 balls

1432 hrs IST: Rohit Sharma is unstoppable in Mohali! Six sixes in the last seven balls he has faced and he has crossed 150 now. Off just 133 balls. Seven sixes!

1428 hrs IST: Rohit Sharma has three consecutive sixes, four in the over. He races to 140* off 131 balls. India cross 300-run mark

1422 hrs IST: Open-leg stance for Rohit now. He is taking on the Sri Lankan bowling. Six over long-on and over square-leg. Easy pickings

1409 hrs IST: Back-to-back boundaries for Shreyas Iyer. He is looking at ease in Mohali. Brilliant feet movement and stroke making

1404 hrs IST: HUNDRED! Rohit Sharma reaches his 16th ODI century and first as India captain. An effortless innings where he has really showed his class and punished the Sri Lankan bowlers.

1357 hrs IST: Shreyas Iyer scores his maiden ODI fifty! Brilliant and breezy innings from Iyer. Only his second ODI game and hs has reached the milestone in just 50 balls

1350 hrs IST: 37 overs bowled in Mohali and India Live Cricket Score 220 for 1. Rohit Sharma batting on 96 while Shreyas Iyer is unbeaten on 48

1340 hrs IST: Stunning shot from Rohit Sharma to take four through covers. 200 up for India in the 35th over and he moves into the 90s

1322 hrs IST: Shreyas Iyer and Rohit Sharma are slowly taking India towards a big total. No risks taken as they are just rotating the strike. This pitch doesn’t look any where close to the Dharamsala wicket

1312 hrs IST: 150 up for India at the end of the 27th over. Rohit Sharma gets a short ball and he pulls it over mid-wicket for a six — first of the Indian innings.

rohit sharma plays a shot against sri lanka

1301 hrs IST: FIFTY! Rohit Sharma reaches his half-century with a single. After Dhawan’s wicket, onus on his to continue the Indian innings. He is joined by Shreyas Iyer in the middle.

1255 hrs IST: WICKET! Shikhar Dhawan falls against the run of play! That is unlucky for Dhawan and India. He tries to go for the big shot against the left-arm spinner Pathirana but the bat twists in his hand. The ball flies to Thirimanne at short mid-wicket and he takes a good catch. India vs Sri Live Score 115 for 1

1249 hrs IST: 100 up for India in the 20th over. This is a stunning acceleration after the start they had. Rohit and Dhawan looking in complete control!
