Hubballi: This year, winter has given Hubballi city the go-by. Citizens in the twin cities are missing the nip in the air and many morning walkers, particularly senior citizens, say that this year, they are using fans and air coolers at night.
Sharing his experience, Somu Reddy, a police constable, said that this year, there is no chill even in the early mornings. Many of our colleagues used to wear sweaters and monkey caps for night duty. I wouldn't go jogging without protective material like a jacket, caps, and hand gloves till last year. This year, I haven't even removed from my wardrobe as they not required," he added.
Fakkiresh Kundagol, an auto driver at Srinagar Cross auto stand, said his auto would be fogged over and damp every morning during winters. This year, he has not seen fog at all. "Colleagues are no longer applying coconut oil and petroleum jelly on faces and lips. In fact, we just don't have cracked lips and dry skin," he said.
Veteran medical practitioner Dr K H Jituri, 82, said it is strange that he has to take off his sweater and monkey cap after going to bed. "We had a tradition of wearing them to bed during winters, whether it was chilly or not. This is the first year in my life that I remove these warm clothes as I start sweating in a few minutes," he said.
Sources in the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre in Bengaluru confirmed that Dharwad district saw a minimum temperature of 11.10 degree Celsius, compared to 5.70 degree Celsius in December last year. "To add to the situation, the district recorded 0.42mm average rainfall while it was 0.54mm in December last year. Maximum rainfall was 3.50mm in December 2016 and it is predicted that it will be 2.50mm this December," sources said.
