VARANASI: Even though the impact of ongoing campaign on the construction and use of toilets is seen growing drastically in the society, the ground reality of open defecation (ODF) village has also started to emerge.
In a village in Varanasi, a boy's wedding was called off as there was no toilet in the house.
Trolley driver Nandlal of Shivdaspur Panchavati Nagar village, was preparing for the wedding of his elder son Kalfu. Relatives from Manduwadih area also reached their house for the festivities.
When the girl and the boy's side were conversing, the girl's family realised that there is no toilet in the house and so they decided to call off the wedding.
According to Nandlal, being a trolley driver, his income is not sufficient that they can afford a toilet in the house. Nandlal had earlier too appealed to the village head and the government regarding the same, but no action was taken.
Lack of toilet called off Nandlal's son's wedding and he doesn't know what to do. He thought that after his wife's death, his daughter-in-law will take care of the house but his wishe couldn't come true.
Most of the people use open space for toilet
According to Nandlal, even though the government has declared their vilalge as an ODF but still most of the people litter outside. While some are not financially strong, the rest do now own land for toilets but the government officials are not ready to listen anything.
The case will be investigated
DPRO Anand Singh said, "On receiving the proposal from Gram Sabha, the University block was declared ODF. Nandlal's epsiode is serious and the case will be investigated. The toilet will be soon constructed with the help of government." BDO Rakshita Singh said that Nandlal never applied for the toilet.
700 Gram Sabha still pending
