Amid mounting criticism over deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Tuesday claimed that the crime graph has not increased in the State.

“The crime against women has not increased in Haryana in last few years. It has remained more or less the same,” said the Chief Minister while talking to the mediapersons in Sonipat.

Manohar Lal was responding to the queries related to opposition’s allegations on rise in crime against women in Haryana during BJP’s tenure.

In a question related to the case of rape and murder of five-year old girl in Hisar, the Chief Minister said that the investigation is going on and culprits would be nabbed soon.

A girl child was allegedly abducted from her home, which is part of a slum-dwellers area in Hisar’s Uklana, in the wee hours on Saturday. Later, her body was found at a distance from the place where she was living with her family.

The State Government has attracted sharp criticism from various corners after the barbaric incident came to the light.

No arrests have been made in the case till Tuesday evening, even as the police had on Sunday assured to nab the culprits in 48 hours.

The opposition and social organizations have demanded immediate arrest of culprits and that the case be put on trial in a fast-track court. Various social organizations has taken to the streets in Haryana and the national capital to protest against Hisar incident and asked the Haryana Government to step up security measures for women safety.

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has even demanded a CBI inquiry into the Hisar rape and murder case.

“The government’s concern should be to set right the worsening law and order situation. Rape and murder cases are happening every day. But this BJP led Haryana Government is busy in tours,” Hooda said on Tuesday.

Quoting the recently released  National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report, the Leader of opposition and INLD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala has said that while 9010 cases of crime against women were registered in the year 2014, it increased to 9511 in 2015 and 9839 cases in 2016.

There has also been a huge increase in the incidents of rape, Chautala had said while expressing concern over law and order situation in Haryana

Last year, 1187 incidents of rape were reported in Haryana, Chautala had said.
