Porvorim: Chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who celebrated his 62nd birthday on Wednesday, resolved to have longer assembly sessions.
"My resolution is that the House should run for a longer period. From the next budget session onwards, the House should run for a minimum of 40-45 days every year," he said when asked what his birthday resolution was.
"Next year, I will cross 40 days, because if a House functions for a long time, then those who ask several questions can then spread them out, and more questions can also be taken. If the House does not run for a long time, there are no pointed questions. If there are no pointed questions, there are no solutions. Vague questions, overall questions do not result in solutions," he said.
Over the last few years, opposition MLAs have repeatedly claimed they weren't given enough time to raise issues in the House and that sometimes their queries hadn't got proper replies.
It was also observed that several times, opposition members themselves had failed to raise important issues even as the opportunity presented itself. "When an issue, however important it is, is raised, pointed questions are not asked. As a result, the House's precious time is wasted," Parrikar said.
