A Brooklyn, N.Y. brewery has been ordered to stop selling Bïeryoncé, a Beyoncé-inspired beer. Lineup Brewing recently received a cease and desist letter from Queen B’s lawyers, Pitchfork reports. The remainder of the final batch of is available in limited quantities in New York.
Owner and head brewer Katarina Martinez reportedly created the 5 per cent ABV (alcohol by volume) German pilsner in the star’s honour after missing one of her concerts.
“As a Hispanic, female run business, I am very inspired by her so I thought I’d pay homage. We’re disappointed she didn’t take it as a compliment, but oh well. It was fun while it lasted!” Martinez told Pitchfork.
According to Bon Appétit magazine, Bïeryoncé debuted in October 2016 (presumably Beyoncé’s lawyers just caught wind of the beer’s second run). The can design – with its black background and blush font – is an homage to Beyoncé, the singer’s fifth studio album (released December 13, 2013).
Proving Lineup Brewing is a good sport, the brewery posted a photo of the freshly renamed pilsner on Instagram, writing, “Ask and Bey shall receive… Moving forward, our German Pilsner will be called ‘Kätariná’ paying homage to our badass female brewer and owner. We’re still huge @beyonce fans”
