Fog hit the movement of Chennaiites today morning

Chennai: When they hit the streets to reach their daily destinations this morning, Chennaiites did not expect that they would be greeted by a dense blanket of fog, which almost hit visibility on roads. "This was not the case till yesterday, though the temperature came down in the recent days due to the changing climatic conditions. But today, I was unable to sense the vehicles coming from opposite direction. Thankfully, many kept their headlights on till 9 am," said Dinesh Arumugam, who works in a private company at Taramani.

Movement of two-wheelers, cars and buses suffered due to the fog and there were traffic jams in the early hours itself. The situation was no different when it comes to the rail route, as trains, both local and long distance ones, faced delays.

"I was in Delhi for many years and fog was common there. But I did not expect this in Chennai. I am waiting for train for the past 45 minutes, but not even one arrived," said Narasimhan at Perungalathur.

Meanwhile, heavy fog at the city airport affected air traffic movement today, with two international flights being diverted to nearby Bengaluru. The fog also resulted in delayed departure and arrival of seven flights this morning, it is learnt.
