HYDERABAD: IN a relief to political thinker and social activist Kancha Ilaiah, the High Court on Monday stayed all further proceedings, including his personal appearance in court, till the end of this December in a case before the X Metropolitan Magistrate at Neredmet in Cyberabad area of the city.
Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy passed this order while dealing with a petition filed by Ilaiah seeking quashing of the criminal proceedings pending against him at the Malkajgiri police station.

On October 11 this year, Malkajgiri police registered a case against him under Sections 153 (A)(C), 153 (B), 295-A and 509 of IPC and Section 3 (1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following a complaint lodged by a student, S Srikanth. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the allegations against his client were vague and absurd, and urged the court to declare the police action in registering a case against his client under the POA Act as arbitrary and illegal. After hearing the counsel, the judge stayed all further proceedings, including his appearance, in the case before the lower court.
