Accused rapist wanted in Columbia County found in Albany, deputies say

An accused rapist was located in Albany on Monday following an investigation into the physical and sexual assault of a woman in Columbia County.
Morgan W. Sheldon, 43, of Stuyvesant, was charged with rape, criminal contempt and unlawful imprisonment, all felonies, as well as assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, all misdemeanors, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Columbia County deputies received a report of the assault on Dec. 3, and searched Sheldon’s home for evidence.
Following the incident, Sheldon fled the area, and was later located in Albany and taken into custody, deputies said.
Sheldon was arraigned in Stuyvesant Town Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, officials said.
He is scheduled to reappear in court at 4 p.m. Dec. 13.
