Transcript: Report: Uber Rider Charged More Than $14,000 for Five Mile Ride

Talk about surge pricing!

A Toronto man took an Uber across the city for what should have been a $12 to $16 ride.

After all, it was five miles.

It was surge pricing time, but can you believe he was charged a whopping $18,518.50 Canadian dollars?

That’s about $14,401.25 US.

And get this, according to TheComeback.com, at first, Uber insisted the charge was right and would not be refunding the passenger.

Emily Kennard, who claimed to be a friend of the customer, posted the photo on Twitter.

Eventually Uber made a statement, admitting the charge did happen and saying, “We have provided a full refund to this rider and apologized to him for his experience.” The company also added that it is working to understand how this occurred.
