Last month saw St-Pierre end a four-year hiatus from the Octagon to challenge Michael Bisping for the middleweight title, a bout which headlined UFC 217 in New York City. 

In front of a packed crowd at Madison Square Garden, St-Pierre ended Bisping's reign at the summit of the 185lbs division with a third-round rear-naked choke. 

St-Pierre's tenure as middleweight champion came to an end on Thursday night as he vacated his fourth UFC title due to an ongoing bout of Colitis. 

His decision to relinquish the title a mere 33 days after claiming it has led many to question his future in the sport, including UFC president Dana White. 

When explaining his decision to vacate the middleweight crown, St-Pierre stated that he needed 'to focus on his health.'

According to Danaher, St-Pierre has been diagnosed Ulcerative Colitis and it could bring about the end of his second stint in the UFC, depending on how he reacts to the medication given to him. 

“That is a definite possibility,” Danaher told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani when asked if St-Pierre’s career could be over.

“I don’t want to say yes or no because it’s not my decision, really. These are deeply personal decisions that Georges has to make. Moreover, they have to be made not as a spur of the moment decisions.

“These are life-changing decisions, so they will have to made on the basis of Georges’ reaction to the medications that he’s taking for ulcerative colitis.

“From what I understand, the standard medications for ulcerative colitis take some considerable amount time to take effect – anywhere from three to eight months – before you’ll even notice any changes. 

"We have to see how he reacts to his medication regiment and make a decision based on that.”
