Lacazette has started Arsenal’s last five Premier League games, contributing two goals during that period.

But Wenger could hand back-up striker Olivier Giroud a starting role when they take on West Ham at the London Stadium.

The Hammers clash comes three days after their 1-1 draw with Southampton and three days before this weekend's visit of Newcastle.

When asked if Giroud could get a chance against West Ham, Wenger said: “When you have three games in six days like this week, there will be an opportunity to start.”

Giroud has been linked with a move away from Arsenal in January in search of regular game time as he looks to boost his hopes of making France’s World Cup squad.

But Wenger has warned Giroud that no club can guarantee regular game time.

The 31-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game this season but has played every minute in the Europa League and EFL Cup so far.

Wenger added: “Yes of course but first of all he played many games, much more than player say - more minutes since the start of the season than Lacazette.

“Nobody can guarantee you will play.”

Lacazette has scored eight goals in 16 league games this season, while Giroud has found the back of the net in his 22 games across all competitions.
