Jose Mourinho made one fatal error after Manchester derby - Ian Wright

JOSE MOURINHO should have handled his anger at Manchester City’s celebrations following the win over Manchester United better.

That’s according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who claims the United boss missed a trick to inspire his team for the next Manchester derby.

The match at Old Trafford on Sunday descended into chaos after the final whistle as both sets of players and staff became embroiled in a heated confrontation.

It reportedly began as Mourinho took umbrage to City’s overzealous celebrations and approached their dressing room which sparked an argument with Ederson.

City assistant coach Mikel Arteta was left with a cut on his face and the two sides had to be separated by stewards and police.

The FA are currently investigating the incident with both clubs having until 6pm tomorrow to provide their account of what happened.

But Wright believes Mourinho should have used City’s celebrations to their advantage by using it to inspire his players the next time they meet Pep Guardiola’s side.

“I am surprised at the way Jose Mourinho reacted when the “noisy neighbours” got a whole lot louder after their latest victory at Old Trafford,” Wright told The Sun.

“George Graham always told us to be gracious in victory, and gracious in defeat. But bursting in and complaining isn’t the way to deal with it. For me, Jose should have let it go at the time, but kept it firmly stored in the memory bank.

“I can understand Mourinho getting the hump over City’s over the top celebrations, and the loud music blaring out of their dressing room.

“I would have expected him to march angrily up to his own players and to tell them to listen carefully to the crowing from the City lads – and to make sure it never happened again.

“I would also have got someone to stand outside the City dressing room to record the music and celebrations, and played it the next time the teams meet. And then I would have told the United players to go out there and shut them up.”
