Police custody of 7 accused extended

A week after seven persons were arrested for allegedly killing four women of a family and their security guard in Shahdara’s Mansarovar Park area, the police said the involvement of an eighth person had emerged.

A senior police officer privy to the case said that the seven accused had claimed that another person was with them at the time of the incident. The team probing the case are verifying the details. “During interrogation, they said that there was another person present with them. They have given a name and a search has been launched,” said the officer.

“We are yet to verify whether he was present at the time of the incident. The details will emerge once he is arrested. We are also verifying whether he was a friend or a relative,” he added.

In a related development, the police have been granted an additional seven-day custody of the accused on Monday. “We had received their custody till December 11. We ’ve now got another seven days,” confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ram Gopal Naik.

On October 7, 82-year-old Urmila Jindal, her three daughters Anjali, Nupur, and Sangeeta, and their security guard Rakesh were found dead, their throat slit at their residence.

Last week, the police had arrested Rakesh’s son-in-law Vikas, son Anuj, and their associates Sunny, Vikas, Neeraj, Nitin, and Deepak. The motive was found to be dacoity which was allegedly planned by the guard himself, the police said. The guard was allegedly killed by his son Anuj.
