Gym-goers at an Oakland 24-Hour Fitness must have been glad they didn't skip their workout over the weekend when a surprise guest showed up: Stephen Curry, armed with free boxes of his signature shoes.

The Warriors star dropped in several schools and gyms around Oakland to distribute shoes and meet with fans.

"It was great," said Kevon Reed, who was at 24-Hour Fitness when Curry arrived. "Real humble and caring guy. I was star-struck, but I held my composure as best I could. I sat in the parking lot for like an hour to take everything in."

Curry also surprised the varsity basketball team at McClymonds High, interrupting their practice to hand out new jerseys, warm-ups and shoes.

"Even though we have not been doing well, he came out to support us," senior power forward Garyon'tae Smith said.

Curry's on an all-out promotional blitz for his new shoe, the Curry 4s. The $130 shoes were just released and feature a special little bonus for fans of the Curry fam.

"Underneath there is my family's initials with their birth years on there so that is very personal for me and my family," Curry told Sports Illustrated, "and then there is trust, commitment, care tagged on there as well, so all the common things that surround me about who I am and hopefully what I represent all throughout the shoe."
