NOIDA: A 26-year old worker of a de-addiction centre was shot at by a drug addict when he had come with a team for his rehabilitation and treatment in Gejha village, Phase II area on Tuesday early morning.
The victim Vivek Singh was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition while the accused Balwinder Tyagi (24), his father Amit Tyagi (50) and brother Sunny (26) fled from spot after the incident.
Vivek worked for Dehradun based Jagriti Foundation, an NGO that offers paid in-house rehabilitation and treatment programme to drug addicts. Vivek said that the Foundation had received a call from Amit Tyagi informing that his son Balwinder was an alcoholic and he needed services of the rehabilitation centre. A four-member Foundation team left Dehradun on Monday night and reached Noida on Tuesday at 3:30 am.
Police said that the team visited Tyagi's house to pick the drug addict but the latter refused to go. The Foundation team and Tyagi family had heated argument over the issue. The team was retrieving the house when Balwinder opened the door and fired from a country-made gun, injuring Vivek critically.
The team members informed police about the matter and rushed the victim to Yatharth Hospital, Sector 110. Police said the accused was under influence of drugs when the incident took place.
Shahwez Khan, SHO Phase II Police Station, said that police conducted searches and found the accused Balwinder was absconding from the house with his father and brother. "We have registered a case of attempt to murder and launched a search for his arrest," Khan said.
