Tuition teacher active in social work gets death threat

IPOH: A tuition teacher who is active in social work has reported receiving a death threat from an unknown caller.

Cheng Ming Tat, 39, from Taman Bercham Tropicana, related the details of the call during a press conference at the Perak MCA office here today.

"I received a call from a man who said I would eat a live bullet yesterday (Dec 11) at my tuition centre in Taman Bercham Sinar.

"The caller who spoke in Cantonese, said a person had hired him to shoot me.

"He even threatened me, saying that he has my personal particulars and photos.

"However he said he would not carry out the job as I was a good person, if I deposited RM1,000 in two bank accounts," said Cheng who is also a committee member of the Bercham Residents Representatives Association.

Cheng said it was likely that the caller obtained details about him from news articles in relation to his social work.

He said the man called him not less than 10 times in two hours on the same day to discuss the matter.

"I do not know the reason for such threats. I feel I have not done anything wrong.

"It is a serious case and I hope the authorities will investigate as soon as possible," he added.

He lodged a police report on the same day following the phone calls.

Cheng said he was not fazed by such calls, and would continue with his social work and community activities.
