It all started when I got into modelling. I was making money and had collected enough to buy myself a Honda Activa. It was great zooming around the city, but soon I realised going around on a two-wheeler was not doing my skin and hair any good. My hair was always messed up and my skin dulled. Being a model, I had to take care of my skin and hair.
So, I decided to buy myself a car. But what I earned as a model those days was not enough to buy myself one. That’s when I was offered the film Ganda Hendathi — a remake of the Hindi film Murder. I was offered a good amount for 30 days of work. I jumped at the offer. With that money, I bought myself a silver Maruti Zen. But my first film was so controversial, I now look back and laugh. I had no clue what I was getting into and the dream of owning a car cost me so much (laughs).
But it was my choti si asha and I have moved on from that. I still remember the number of my first car — 2727. Of course, I had a lot of nervous moments while at the wheel in the beginning. All I wanted to do was go to college in my own car.
After a few years, I had a Civic and then a Verna. Now, I drive a BMW 5 Series car. That’s my journey as a car owner.
But I have plenty to say about my driving experiences. I have had many tense and jittery moments while driving. I started driving slowly and I still do. I don’t exceed 15 or 20 km/hour even when I am on MG Road or on a highway. In fact, my friends tease me saying they would rather walk instead of having me drive them.
However, today, I am good at driving and can be trusted to take you to your destination. Whether you want to go to a hill station or just to a corner in the city, you’ll get there, safe and sound.
