ABU DHABI: The LightingTech Abu Dhabi Summit kicked off yesterday in Westin Abu Dhabi Hotel and would continue for two days. The conference is organised by Advanced Conferences & Meetings FZ-LLC and held as part of the keenness of the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities on implementing the emirate’s lighting strategy.
Eng. Sami Abdul Qader Al Hashmi, Director of the Infrastructure Support Division, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, revealed that the existing road lighting units would be replaced by LED lighting system through partnership contracts between the public and private sectors.
A major project for lighting Abu Dhabi Island is scheduled to be offered in a tender later this year and would include installing, operating, maintaining and financing approximately 43,000 lighting units, he said, adding that the project will be carried out within 18 months.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Municipality will start carrying out Abu Dhabi Lighting project in the first quarter of next year for replacing the existing tradition lighting system with energy-saving LEDs. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months with an operating period of up to 10 years.
