Central Bank cash deposits surge to Dhs223.26b

ABU DHABI: The total cash deposits placed at the UAE Central Bank surged to Dhs223.26 billion in 11 months, a growth of 9 per cent from Dhs204.8 billion by end of October.

In the meantime, withdrawals from the Central Bank amounted to Dhs222.969 billion in 11 months, an increase of 11.3 per cent from Dhs206.6 billion during the period from January through the end of October.

In more detail, total banknote deposits at CB stood at Dhs223.168 billion, while coin deposits reached Dhs86.6 million, according to Central Bank Statistics released on Monday.

Deposits during the month of November reached Dhs18.453 billion against Dhs19.8 billion in October.

July witnessed the highest level of deposits worth Dhs23.93 billion, followed by Dhs21.92 billion in May, then Dhs21.8 billion in April.

In November, a total of Dhs23.459 billion were withdrawn, Dhs23.448 of which in banknote and Dhs10.5 in coin. In May a total of Dhs25.56 billion was withdrawn, Dhs22.8 billion in August, Dhs22.74 billion in June and finally Dhs22 billion in March.

Current account balances and deposits of the UAE Central Bank with banks abroad rose 54.7 per cent or Dhs80.8 billion in the first ten months of the year to Dhs228.7 billion from Dhs147.8 billion in the same corresponding period last year, according to recent figures released by the Central Bank.

Commemorative coin

The UAE Central Bank has announced that it will be issuing a commemorative silver coin, on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the Insurance Authority with effect from Monday, 11th December 2017.

In a statement, the Central Bank said that the general specifications of the commemorative silver coin are as follows; diameter: 38.61 mm, weight: 28.28 gms, alloy: 999Ag. Pure Silver, and issue size: 2,000 Coins.

The statement added that the obverse face of the coin depicts the portrait of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, circumscribed by the expression “His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates” written in Arabic and the face value (Dhs50) and the back depicts the logo of the occasion.
