Speaking in European Parliament, he said: “Do you think with all these rules and regulations that are being brought in by the European Union, on the back of this report, that businesses are going to flood into the UK immediately after Brexit?"

He said that the UK was a place where people could feel their money was “safe”.

“And it’s not going to be plundered by the left wing individuals who just want to destroy business and create a communist superstate.”

Talks went on through the night on Thursday and Friday between Britain, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the EU to sign off the first phase of negotiations.

The last minute, early morning deal settled the divorce bill, the Irish border and EU citizens’ rights, with the hope negotiations can now move on to trade.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, the Brexit Secretary David Davis said the UK would seek a “Canada plus plus plus” deal.

Mr Davis said he wanted to see an “over-arching trade deal” but including services.

The Brexit Secretary said it would also set out “individual arrangements for aviation, nuclear and for data”.

The EU27 are meeting to decide whether sufficient progress has been made on Brexit talks.

Despite the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, and its chief Brexit negotiator saying they believed enough had been done, the final decision lies with the member states.
