Bio-synergy are one of the brands that have jumped on the charcoal bandwagon.

Their capsules, which retail for £19.99 for a pack of 90, apparently work to detox the body and reduce bloating.

The magic ingredient is said to trap toxins and chemicals in its millions of tiny pores. This can prevent them from being carried through the body and flushes them out.

As charcoal has detoxifying properties, some believe it can cure hangovers.

Apparently, taking one of the pills before enjoying some booze may prevent the alcohol from being absorbed.

As well as this, the capsules may also work to beat the Christmas bloat.

The Bio-synergy product has been marketed as a remedy for “gas”.

On their official website, the brand recommends taking the pills before or immediately after a meal.

The theory is that the capsules will then combat gas-producing substances in the stomach.

This may reduce your feelings of fatigue and sluggishness.

There has been some scepticism around the properties of charcoal in previous months.

Recent studies have explored the effectiveness of the ingredient on our health.

A study of healthy males between 21 and 37 years of age showed that it did not have an affect on the blood.

This showed that those surveyed still absorbed alcohol and other toxins.
