West Ham keeper Joe Hart should STILL be England No.1 – Shay Given

WEST HAM under-fire goalkeeper Joe Hart should remain England’s No.1, according to Shay Given.

The 30-year-old has conceded 32 goals between the sticks for the Hammers this season as they battle relegation.

And it went from bad to worse for Hart after he was dropped by David Moyes for the clash against Chelsea at the weekend.

His poor form has brought into question whether he should start for England at the World Cup in 2018.

But Given, speaking to Starsport before West Ham's 1-0 win over the Blues on Saturday, has every confidence in the keeper.

“For me, he’s getting some harsh treatment,” he said.

“West Ham as a whole are struggling defensively this season.

Shay Given backed Joe Hart to retain his No.1 jersey for England

“Obviously, as Joe is England’s number one, he gets a lot of criticism but he has had no chance saving a lot of the goals this year.

“I think he’s still up there and still has plenty of years ahead of him.

“He’s still Gareth Southgate’s number one.

Given played with Hart at Manchester City

“Jack Butland’s pushing hard, [Jordan] Pickford’s pushing hard, there’s Tom Heaton when he’s back and Fraser Forster.

“But Joe is still in possession of the jersey and for me, Gareth Southgate will start with him in the summer.”
