In the ongoing Gujarat assembly elections, Samajwadi Party has fielded five candidates for whom SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav has been campaigning in Gujarat.

However, at the end of the first round of elections in the state, SP founder and former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav has sent shockwaves through the political circles by openly defying his son's authority in the party.

Talking to India Today, Yadav said that all five candidates that the Samajwadi Party has fielded in Gujarat will lose badly. He said that if Akhilesh had to enter Gujarat, he should have fielded candidates on all seats.

He said that in 2019 parliamentary elections, he will contest the elections from Mainpuri. Asked what the party will do about Tej Prata Singh Yadav who is currently the MP from Mainpuri, he said it will be decided later from where Tej Pratap will contest the elections.

He criticized Mani Shankar Aiyar's comments on PM Modi and said that the use of such language was appalling and such a man should not only be expelled from the party, but from politics as well.

He said that Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of India and he has been elected by the people of India. Saying anything derogatory against Modi is a direct insult of the people of India.

Asked about the family feud in the Yadav clan, he said that everything is fine in the family and any disputes that arose due to the difference in political thought processes have been resolved.

Reacting to Mulayam Singh's statements, a senior Samajwadi Party leader faithful to Akhilesh Yadav said on the condition of anonymity that it is time that the senior Yadav retired from active politics and allow the younger generation to come out and assert itself.

He said that Mulayam is thinking about contesting from Mainpuri in the 2019 elections, but instead, he should be working towards strengthening the party and let the youth take up the mantle.

Agra City Congress Committee Secretary Mohd. Shareef Kale said that Mulayam Singh Yadav and Narendra Modi have a private coalition and both of them can be seen complimenting each other from time to time, while both Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav are working hard at bringing out the real face of Narendra Modi in front of the people of India.

He said that Mulayam Singh Yadav has earned his 'superannuation' and should get some rest now.
