Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan wrote in Tamil: "On behalf of the Tamil Nadu BJP, our wishes to brother Mr Rajinikanth, who is celebrating his birthday today."

Meanwhile, tense moments prevailed near the Poes Garden residence of the top star, after his fans thronged the place in large numbers to meet and greet him. They carried flags of Rajinikanth fans club and raised slogans hailing the superstar.
Since they did not leave the place even after they were told that their 'thalaivar' was not in his house, police personnel were posted. As the cops prevented further entry of fans into the area, which houses the residence of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and other VIPs, there was a minor altercation between them.

Fans have made elaborate arrangements today to celebrate the birthday of Rajinikanth, amid expectations that he would enter politics anytime. Special prayers were conducted at temples and sweets were distributed to people.
