Opposition loads ammo for House session today

Four-day Winter Session of the Assembly is set to commence on Tuesday with virtually three working days in hand. The Government besides getting approval of the second supplementary budget is eyeing to pass at least four Bills.

Sources in the Government confided that the Bills for setting up Jharkhand Education Tribunal, for making registration of marriages compulsory,  for minor minerals and for e-payment of court fee, as well as a sports university Bill for the registration of the upcoming institutions as sports promotion societies under the Society Registration Act are expected to be brought before the House for discussion.

However, the floor is likely to be used more for politics which has been played out for so many previous occasions. “The Government is not serious in running the House and does not want to conduct any meaningful legislative exercise. Calling three- day session is just eyewash. We would raise the issues affecting tribal and farmers of the State and if not allowed then there is no point in running the House,” said JVM principal general secretary Pradeep Yadav.

As per the schedule, the Supplementary Budget would be tabled on Wednesday and passed the very next day after discussion. “What is the point in discussing the Budget for a single day? This shows their intent which is to get money only and not show their ledger and getting it scrutinised.

For the JMM, the rampant loot of farm land and forest land belonging to tribals is of prime concern which the Government is permitting through legislations.

The Bill amending the Land Acquisition Act relaxing social impact assessment clause is such an example,” said senior JMM legislator Stephen Marandi.

The Opposition, including the Congress is looking to raise recent police firings on the land losing farmers and raiyats in Badkagaon, Gola and other places, reported deaths due to hunger and lack of medicines, deteriorating law and order situation in the capital in the Assembly.

“No work of people is taking place. Even the Chief Minister has admitted about bribe in developmental works. Quality of the works taking place is for anyone to see. All their claims of good and transparent governance are farce.

That is why the Government is running away from discussion and debate and has kept the Session so short,” said Congress Legislation Party leader Alamgir Alam.

On the other, a formal meeting of the ruling NDA legislators has been called on Tuesday at the residence of Chief Minister Raghubar Das to chalk out the strategy to run the House smoothly.

“The Government is ready for discussion of all kinds, provided the Opposition comes forward in parliamentary manner. However, their conducts during previous so many sessions suggest otherwise,” said BJP legislator and party’s chief whip Radha Krishna Kishore.
