Florence homeowner Trisha Henry and her kids were asleep in their home Sunday morning when an extremely traumatic moment hit them.

"I still can't wrap my mind around it honestly," Henry said.

She is referring to the moment when her former boss John Kalama broke into her home and started a fire. Police say Henry was able to get her children to safety, but Kalama began assaulting her. This is when she was able to get to the bathroom. After a period of gunfire, Henry escaped, but her former boss was found dead in the burning home.

Henry did not want to discuss in detail the events leading to Kalama's death, but she did say she stopped working for him a month ago. Her focus remained for her children's well-being after the ordeal.

"[I'm most thankful for] just having my three children safe where I can hold them at night," Henry said.

Henry also says the community has reached out to her providing gift cards, money and other support.

Police are waiting for Kalama's autospy results, and they believe a grand jury will determine is anyone faces charges.
