BHAGALPUR: In a bid to boost tourists inflow in the state, especially in places of historical, cultural and religious importance, an Interstate Tourism Centre (ITC) is likely to come up here soon.
The tourism centre would be established in collaboration with neighbouring state Jharkhand to promote tourism in the region and facilitate tourists to visit historical places, heritage sites and places of pilgrimage. Move to promote yoga through 'Yoga Tourism' too would start soon as the adjacent district of Munger is famous for its internationally acclaimed Bihar School of Yoga.
These were stated by state tourism minister Pramod Kumar on Wednesday, who was here to inaugurate the 12th Bhagalpur Mahotsav. "The government is planning to connect the heritage sites as well as places which are socio-culturally important through a tourists' circuit in the state," said the minister adding, "If need arises we would collaborate with Jharkhand for facilitating tourism in the region."
Considering the importance of historical spots besides places of religious importance in Bhagalpur division, the minister announced that a special bus service would start from Bhagalpur soon to promote socio-cultural, historical and religious tourism in the division. The special bus service will initially cover a radius of 40km for sightseeing and later on it would be extended across the district.
Referring to the development of Mandar Hills as a tourist spot in Bounsi block of Banka district, the minister said, "We have already sent a detailed proposal to the Central government. The proposal includes installation of a ropeway from the foothills to the top of the hill. More than Rs 50 crore would be spent on developing the Mandar Hills. In fact, we are in the process of developing infrastructure at all the tourists' spots of the state."
Later talking to newsmen, the minister said the state government is aware of the demands of the local residents for integrated development of Vikramshila excavation site at Kahalgaon, Mandar Hills area at Bounsi, Digambar Jain temple, Champapuri in Nathnagar, Shrawani Mela, Ajgaibinath at Sultanganj etc as tourist circuit in Bhagalpur division. "We have already started development work on the Kanwaria route from Sultanganj to Deoghar and the total cost would come around Rs 80 crore," he added.
