BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has extended the last date of the receipt of application for the Odisha Civil Services Examination (OCSE), 2017, from December 16 to December 30.
It has also postponed the preliminary exam for the convenience of candidates.
The new date will be notified later. The OPSC, which conducts the OCSE, amended the previous notification in a corrigendum issued on Friday.
The last date for filling the online application form for the exam is December 30. The last date for the payment of fees is January 3, the notification said.
The previous notice, issued on November 27, had asked candidates to apply for the exam between November 30 and December 14. The last date to deposit the exam fee with any branch of the State Bank of India was December 16. The preliminary exam was slated to be held on December 24, only 10 days after the last date of application.
TOI on December 5 had reported the difficulties being faced by candidates, especially those in the remote areas of the state, because of the small window between the last date of application and the preliminary exam. Ashok Meena, special secretary (general administration), had told TOI that a postponement of the exam was on the cards. He had also said the deadline for application would also be extended.
Asked about the delay of the exam schedule, he had held the government departments responsible for submitting the list of vacant posts late.
Students preparing for the exam heaved a sigh of relief after the corrigendum was issued, as they will now get more time to fill the online application for the exam.
"The OPSC has given a month's time to apply for the exam. The preliminary exam has also been deferred. At least we will get some time for serious preparation for this crucial exam," said Ratan Kumar Digal, an aspirant.
Last year, the OPSC had conducted the preliminary exam on November 27, four months after the last date of receipt of application.
