Transfer news: Chelsea to ambush Arsenal and Liverpool approach for Thomas Lemar

CHELSEA could reportedly join the race to sign Thomas Lemar with both Arsenal and Liverpool set to reignite their interest next month.

Arsenal came agonisingly close to signing Lemar for a club record £90million fee in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

But the deal hinged on Alexis Sanchez joining Manchester City for £60m and neither move went through.

Liverpool were also constantly linked with Lemar’s services and Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev claimed the Merseyside club lodged two bids for his signature.

The France international was said to favour a move to Anfield over the Emirates but he was open to joining either club.

And French newspaper L’Equipe report both clubs will reignite their interest in the 22-year-old next month.

However, the Premier League duo will also face competition from Chelsea, who are said to have made contact with Monaco about a potential move for Lemar.

It is claimed Arsene Wenger still regards Lemar as his first-choice target to replace Sanchez, should he leave in the January transfer window.

But Jurgen Klopp remains a huge fan of the Ligue 1 star and wants to bring in a big name as he isn’t confident Liverpool can keep hold of Philippe Coutinho past this season.

It is also suggested that Monaco will be more willing to listen to offers in the New Year.

Lemar has so far struggled with injury problems this season and could seek a move away earlier than next summer due to Monaco being knocked out of the Champions League.
