Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman was one of the preeminent leaders of the Haredi world in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, the spiritual leader of the non-Hassidic Ashkenazi Haredi community, died today at the age of 104 and was buried near his home in the city of Bnei Brak.

Hundreds of thousands of people attended his funeral, as police closed major highways before and during the course of the procession.

Shteinman was the long-time head of the Ponevezh Yeshiva and the head of the Degel HaTorah party, a part of United Torah Judaism.
