Governor SC Jamir all praise for Centurion varsity’s focus on skill drive

BHUBANESWAR: Governor SC Jamir on Monday lauded Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) for pioneering skill integrated higher education in the State.

Jamir said the university has created a set of viable social enterprises, both in rural and urban space, which are integral to its unique educational ecosystem. The Governor, who is the Visitor of CUTM, was speaking at its 5th Convocation.

Delivering the Commencement Address, former Minister, Skill and Training, Government of Victoria, Steven Herbert exhorted students of CUTM to focus on outcome. Herbert said, students must plan their career at the beginning which will make their journey easier and more successful.

Speaking at the convocation, Director of Northern Institute, Charles Darwin University, Australia Prof Ruth Wallace evinced deep interest in collaboration between Charles Darwin University and CUTM. She was hopeful that the visit would open channels for exchange of knowledge between the two institutions for mutual benefit and enhanced productivity.  As many as 1,595 graduates from various disciplines were awarded degrees during the convocation. Seventeen students were conferred gold medals for their outstanding performances while 25 scholars received Ph D degrees.

Two arrested for submitting forged documents

Bhubaneswar: Police, on Monday, nabbed two persons for purchasing a mobile phone on installment by submitting forged documents. They have been identified as Jagannath Prasad Mohanty and Ajay Kumar Swain, both natives of Cuttack. Ajay had earlier purchased a mobile phone of `20, 000 on installment. A firm, Home Credit India Finance Limited had financed the loan amount for Ajay. He had submitted fake address proof to the finance firm and later refrained from paying installments. On Monday, the two went to buy a mobile from a shop in Nayapalli where Jagannath took Ajay’s Aadhaar card purchasing a mobile phone. Interestingly, Home Credit’s staff were financing mobile phones in the shop, The firm’s staff discovered that Ajay is already a defaulter. The shop staff nabbed Jagannath and asked him to call Ajay. The shop and finance firm’s staff nabbed Ajay also and handed over the two to police.
