85% work over for Gzb metro, trials from March

Ghaziabad: The trial run for Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand Metro line will begin in March next year. This was announced at a review meeting called by GDA vice-chairperson & district magistrate Ritu Maheshwari with DMRC officials on Tuesday.

The GDA on its part assured DMRC officials that issues related to land for a fire escape route at Metro stations and funds have been resolved. Ritu Maheshwari, vice-chairperson, GDA, said, "In the review meeting with DMRC officials, we were told that 85% of civil work on 9.41-km Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand Metro line has been completed while structural work on 12 metro station buildings have also been over. At this rate the trial run could begin in March 2018."

The problem of acquiring land for the fire escape route at five places along the four proposed Metro stations was hanging fire for a long time but has now been resolved, according to the district magistrate. "For the fire escape route, a 45 sqm plot is required but we were facing problem due to non availability of land at Saheed Nagar, and two places at Rajbagh and Mohan Nagar," said Maheshwari. "We informed DMRC officials that the land for fire escape route at Saheed Nagar and at one place at Rajbagh Metro station have been acquired while at Mohan Nagar and another spot at Rajbagh metro station, we have got consent from the private parties with whom we were in talks with to part with the land."


Meanwhile, work on the entire viaduct of 9.6 km is complete except for two spans, which will also be completed by end of this month. Work for track-laying will be completed by January, and as of now, out of the total 19km track, 13 km line has been laid. Signaling work is expected to finish by March next year.


Out of 14 buildings for eight metro stations, structural work has been completed for 12 buildings. Work on the remaining two metro stations buildings at Arthala and New Bus station will be completed by March next year.


Ritu Maheshwari informed DMRC officials that Rs 830 crore has already been paid and another Rs 50 crore from UPSIDC and the UP Housing Board's share will be released next month. The Centre's share is also expected shortly as the revised DPR has been approved by UP cabinet.
