Lionel Messi: Barcelona star's ABYSMAL record against Champions League opponents Chelsea

CHELSEA will be hoping to continue their strong record against Lionel Messi when they face Barcelona in the next round of the Champions League.

The Blues have been punished for failing to win their group last week by drawing the Catalan giants when Europe's biggest club competition rolls back around in February.

Barcelona are in fine form this season and remain unbeaten in all competitions.

Club legend Lionel Messi has already hit 18 goals this term, including three in the Champions League.

But Chelsea will be buoyed by the Argentinian's record against them in the past.

Messi has featured against the west London outfit eight times in his career.

However, he has never found the net against the Premier League champions.

“We would rather play Arsenal, Manchester United or anyone else than be on the pitch with Chelsea”

In fact, Messi has a worse record against Chelsea than any other team he has ever competed against.

The 30-year-old has had 29 shots on goal against the club without finding the net.

Messi has been vocal about his hate for Chelsea in the past.

Back in 2006, ahead of a clash against the English side, he told the News of the World: "There are players here who hate Chelsea more than Real Madrid.

But Lionel Messi has never scored against Chelsea in eight matches

"I never thought I would hear myself say that.

"I also never thought I would see something worse than the Boca and River Plate rivalry or Brazil v Argentina - but this is.

"We would rather play Arsenal, Manchester United or anyone else than be on the pitch with Chelsea."
