Ronnie O’Sullivan: UK Snooker Championship winner reveals retirement plans

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN has revealed his plans to play snooker well into his 60s.

The Brit beat Shaun Murphy 10-5 yesterday to claim his sixth UK Snooker Championship title.

O’Sullivan equalled Steve Davis’ record at the York-based event while scooping the £450,000 jackpot prize.

The final started tight with the scores tied at 4-4 until O’Sullivan stormed into the lead to claim a comfortable victory.

O’Sullivan first won the UK Snooker Championship when he was aged 17 and now at 42 he is still enjoying similar success and claims he does not feel like his ability will ever fade away.

I can’t imagine getting to 60 (years old) and thinking ‘I can’t make 100’.

“I still feel like I can play to a very very high standard and I can’t imagine never being able to play this game to a very high standard,” O’Sullivan told Betway World Snooker.

“I can’t imagine getting to 60 (years old) and thinking ‘I can’t make 100’.

“If you can make 100 then why can’t you make five centuries or 10 centuries - age is just a number.”

And when asked if he had any plans for retirement soon he replied: “No.”

But once he drops out of the tour he does plan on joining up with Jason Francis’ World Seniors Tour - which offers ageing player the chance to stay active int eh sport.

“Big Jason (Francis) has just got his senior tours up and running so I’m looking forward to that now,” O’Sullivan added.

“I’m looking forward to the seniors.

“I think it’s a great thing that the World Snooker have done to join up with Jason and they’ve got a seniors toor.

“It’s great for the players that do drop off the tour because all we have done is played snooker all our lives.

“It’s not always about the money. it’s about the camaraderie and just being with your mates.

“When I took time our from snooker I missed the people, i didn’t miss the game.

“To have that is great. When I’m done here I can go and get on the old seniors tour - love it!”
