California Wildfires Blaze Into Second Week as More Than 1,000 Structures DestroyedThousands of firefighters continued to fight against the giant Thomas Fire in Southern California on Tuesday, finally making headway as the Santa Ana winds decreased to only 15 to 25 mph, according to CNN. The blaze is now larger than New York City and was 20% contained as of Tuesday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire). "Red flag warnings" were confined to the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties and covered over 1 million residents, down from the peak of the wildfires last week when the warnings covered almost 20 million people.
