Stays regulations on installation of STP and providing dual piping system

The Karnataka High Court on Monday stayed the regulations making installation of modular Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) and providing dual piping system mandatory even for existing apartment complexes with more than 50 flats.

However, the stay will be applicable only for the 13 associations of apartment owners which have approached the court.

Justice A.S. Bopanna passed the interim order on one petition filed by Raheja Residency Apartment Owners Apex Body, Koramangala and five other associations; and another by Krishna Apartment Owners’ Welfare Association, Ali Askar Road, and six other associations.

The amended regulations, issued in March-April this year have given time till December 31, 2017 to install STPs. If the apartments fail to do so, they have to pay additional 25% sanitary charges between January and March 2018, with the figure going up to 50% from April 2018.
