Muslims to abide by SC verdict on Babri: Azam

| | Lucknow

Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan said on Monday that Muslims would abide by the Supreme Court verdict on Ram Janam Bhoomi -Babri Masjid dispute.

Khan however questioned the statements of Sangh leaders who claimed in recent statements that the court verdict will be in their favour. “I say with a sense of pride that we will abide by the verdict of Supreme Court on Ayodhya issue. The BJP leaders should stop talking about the rule of the law and the Supreme Court, as the whole world saw what happened in Ayodhya on December 6. The Babri Mosque was demolished in day light,’’ said Khan in Rampur on Monday while addressing a meeting of newly- elected representatives of Urban Local Bodies of the district belonging to SP.

“Despite the Ayodhya issue being sub-judice and the Supreme Court hearing the matter, BJP leaders are making tall claims that the court will rule in their favour. The utterances of BJP leaders have put the prestige and credibility of Supreme Court at stake. The BJP leaders should stop talking of law and Supreme Court,’’ said the SP leader.

Holding the then UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh responsible for the demolition of Babri mosque, Khan said, “Despite the huge presence of police, PAC and Central Para-Military Forces, the Babri mosque was demolished on December 6, 1992 and no one was held accountable for the grave crime.’’

The SP leader said, “Even on December 6, 1992, Muslims had honoured the Supreme Court verdict as the latter had issued directions for safety and security of the mosque. The National Integration Council had also passed a resolution  for protection of the mosque and the then CM Kalyan  Singh had also filed an affidavit in Supreme Court assuring its security saying that only Kar Sewa will be conducted and none will be allowed anywhere near the mosque.’’
