This is not first time I have visited temples : Rahul

Denying that his visit to temples in Gujarat had anything to do with the Gujarat elections, Congress president elect Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said this is not the first time that he has visited temples.

” I keep visiting temples. I have visited temples in Uttarakhand also. I also visited Kedarnath. This is a BJP’s theory that I don’t visit temples,’Mr Gandhi told a press conference, his maiden since announcement of his election as the new party president replacing his mother Sonia Gandhi.

‘ Is it wrong to go to a temple?,’Rahul asked.

Asked as to what he prayed for in the Temples, Rahul said,’whenever I went to a temple I just prayed for a ‘Sunehra Bhavishya’ for the people of Gujarat, a better development here.’
Mr Gandhi said the BJP has failed to maintain the “narrative” in this year’s elections in the western state and asserted in contrast the Congress campaigned based on issues of development.

He said once the issue of Jay Shah and Rafale aircraft deal surfaced, Prime Minister Modi has stopped talking about corruption.

“Entire Gujarat understands this…..There is a strong undercurrent against BJP. First time, I have seen all communities – Patidars, Dalits, farmers everyone is against BJP,” Mr Gandhi said.

“I am happy that for last 22 years Congress is united and giving a strong fight,” he said.
