Market Now: Metal stocks shine; Vedanta, Hindalco among top gainers

NEW DELHI: Metal stocks including Vedanta (up 2.57 per cent), Hindalco Industries (up 1.64 per cent) and National Aluminium Company (NALCO) (up 1.36 per cent) were trading up in Tuesday's trade, keeping the Nifty Metal index up while other sectoral indices were down.
The Nifty Metal index was trading 0.93 per cent up at 3,684 around 10:45 am (IST).
Shares of JSW Steel (up 1.05 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power (up 0.85 per cent), Tata Steel (up 0.71 per cent), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (up 0.43 per cent), Hindustan Zinc (up 0.29 per cent) and NMDC (up 0.23 per cent) were also seen in the green.
However, APL Apollo Tubes (down 1.45 per cent), MOIL (down 1.05 per cent), Jindal Stainless (Hisar) (down 0.91 per cent), Coal India (down 0.50 per cent) and Hindustan Copper (down 0.11 per cent) were trading in the red around that time.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was 46 points down at 10,277, while the BSE Sensex was 121 points down at 33,334.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 14 were trading in the green, while 36 were in the red.
Shares of Dr Reddy's Labs, Vedanta, GAIL, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Hindalco and Reliance Industries were among the top gainers in the Nifty50 index.
However, shares of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharti Infratel, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Bharti Airtel and Eicher Motors were losing in trade.
