Elderly man dies after ST bus hits him

Pune: A 62-year-old pedestrian from Latur district died after he was hit by a speeding state transport bus in a no-entry zone at Maldhakka Chowk in Mangalwar Peth around 6.30am on Monday. Police identified the deceased as Bhaguji Raghu Khatpe.


The bus driver, Kumar Jagganath Waghmare (33), rushed Khatpe to Sassoon General Hospital, wher he was declared dead by the doctors. The hospital then informed the Samarth police. Sub-inspector Nitin Atkare said on Tuesday, "Khatpe died due to multiple injuries after he came under the front-side right wheel. The driver did not realize that right turn was not allowed."


"Waghmare has been arrested under Section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC," the officer said.


The driver was released on bail by a magisterial court.
