Viewers know that the farmer has been struggling with post-natal depression since the birth of her and Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) son Isaac, and are becoming more and more worried about her state of mind. 

The latest instalment saw Moira (played by Natalie J. Robb) go a step too far however, as she finally reached the end of her tether after a string of nights with barely any sleep. 

The character even attempted to get a prescription for sleeping pills from her regular doctor, insisting that her insomnia was not due to her son, but was firmly turned away. 

Breaking down, Moira finally reached her darkest place yet on the ITV soap, as she plucked up the courage to call her dead daughter Holly Barton’s (Sophie Powles) drug dealer. 

Sobbing, the brunette explained: “I’m an old friend of Holly Barton’s. Yeah it was a real bummer [she died]. I was wondering if you could help me I really need some, some… look, can you meet me tomorrow?”

While the tormented mother had clearly hit rock bottom, many fans couldn’t believe that she would steep so low as to contact the despicable Simon. 

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “Moira is suffering PND like so many other new mums. Tell that story #emmerdale. Adding drugs to the mix seems so unnecessary.”

Another said: “Agreed. After seeing what Holly went through, I just don’t see Moira going down that route #Emmerdale.”

“#Emmerdale Please don't go down the drugs route with Moira. So not believable. Also hurry up with the Emma murder. Fed up with it now,” a third agreed, followed by: “Oh Moira what are you doing? @emmerdale #Emmerdale.”

Even more viewers continued to voice their frustration with the soap, as one person raged: “#emmerdale AS IF! Moira was so anti drugs because of Holly! RIDICULOUS storyline!”
