The detective series sees her character DCI Elizabeth Bancroft determined to become Detective Chief Superintendent by taking down a crime ring run by the Kamara family. 

However, she has a dark secret in her past which looks set to be exposed when DS Katherine Stevens (played by Faye Marsay) opens a cold case she worked on in the 90s. 

The pair play a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse in the series, which airs over four consecutive nights - but where was the drama shot?

Where was Bancroft filmed?

Bancroft was filmed in the north of England with the series being set in a fictional northern city. 

The cast and crew of the ITV drama reportedly spent two days shooting in Le Mans Crescent in Bolton, Greater Manchester. 

Temporary traffic lights were said to have been erected in Howell Croft North and Howell Croft South for the four-part series, while some scenes also took place outside Bolton School. 

Another backdrop used for the drama was Leeds, West Yorkshire, which is fast becoming a popular filming location with Victoria and Peaky Blinders also being shot there. 

How many episodes is Bancroft?

Bancroft is compiled of four episodes with the first instalment airing yesterday. 

The second episode will be broadcast tonight with the drama concluding on Thursday.
