Organizers claim Sunburn will be bigger than ever

PUNE: Sunburn 2017 organizers claimed that the latest edition of the festival would be a large-format international event for the first time.

They told TOI that the event would create brand new infrastructure at the Oxford Golf Course — the latest venue of the event. It would benefit the city and the state.

Sources in Percept Live, the company organizing Sunburn, said they were at present creating parking infrastructure for over 10,000 cars and bikes at the venue. A massive space for the main stage — 350ft X 150ft — with a total area of over 21,000sqft and about 500,000sqft of fan area in front of it is being planned for the event, slated from December 28-31.

The main stage will have 15,000sqft of LED, complete with pyros, special effects, lighting, confetti's and installations crafted by artistes from all over the world, they said.

Harindra Singh, the chairman and managing director of Percept Live, told TOI that though they had initially thought Pimpri Chinchwad to be an apt venue for the event, they had to drop the idea for infrastructure issues. "There was no question of permission ever being denied, as we never confirmed the venue or even applied for any permission. Later, we looked at Mahalakshmi Lawns, Wagholi, and thought that it was a good location from a practical perspective," he said.

The organizers had booked the Wagholi venue and but they were denied permission because of objections from airport authorities, CRPF and the Air Force. "We were advised to look at the other side of the town, given the congestion on the Nagar highway. Our search included Balewadi, Hinjewadi and Dehu Road till we finally ended up with the Oxford Golf Resort. It is the most suitable venue because it is linked through the bypass highway and has a convenient approach from Mumbai and Pune," said Singh.
