DJ to face the music after 70-year-old complains against noise in Zirakpur

Irked by the loud music during functions at a marriage palace near his residence, a 70-year-old farmer has lodged a complaint against the DJ in Kishanpura village, near Dhakoli in Zirakpur.

Police said the complainant, Madan Singh, informed them that the loud music was a constant source of nuisance in the area. They added that Madan’s wife was suffering from a heart ailment for which she was receiving treatment from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for the past three years.

Madan stated that doctors have advised his wife to stay away from loud music or noise as she has a serious heart ailment. He added that he has repeatedly requested the DJ to turn the music down, but in vain. Following this, he lodged a formal complaint.

The DJ, identified as Sukhbir Singh, was booked on Madan’s complaint for allegedly playing loud music during the day even after being told to turn it down. Investigating officer Rameshwar Das said, “We too have been repeatedly issuing warnings to the organisers of marriage functions after receiving complaints from nearby residents.”

“The marriage palace is built on panchayat land and is hardly five metres away from Madan’s house. The building was constructed by panchayat members,” he added.

Police said 10 houses were in close proximity to the marriage palace that stood on five acres. They added that the accused was at large and yet to be arrested. 

However, Ravneet Kaur, the sarpanch of Kishanpura, said, “The marriage palace is built on panchayat land and after consulting villagers. Madan and Bhupinder, who are brothers, are the only people residing illegally near the palace. This has become an issue as we are Akalis and they support the Congress,” adding, “the matter is also in court now.”

A case was registered under Sections 3 and 6 of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules.
