ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Police have foiled a bid to promote two and a half million narcotic tablets of (captagon) in a process known as the “sharp eye.” The police arrested four persons who were under surveillance, while preparing to pack the tablets in plastic bags in a manor in Al Ain to distribute them in the country.

The arrest of the perpetrators was carried out at an unexpected speed, amid astonishment. “Even they could not move or try to escape,” said Colonel Taher Al-Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department. This was after receiving verified information about  their criminal activity. The police learnt that they were ready to promote narcotics from the suspicious homestead, which looked like a den.

The operation was carried out in a professional manner and with efficient coordination between the staff of the Anti-Narcotics Department and the Air Wing of Abu Dhabi Police, he said.

He pointed out that the efforts to gather information, set a meticulous plan and overcome various challenges ensured nabbing of the suspects and seize such poisons. They were referred to the competent departments for further procedures, he said.

He reiterated keenness of the Abu Dhabi Police to thwart any attempts to promote drugs, especially among young people, pointing out that the department will keep a watchful eye to combat this scourge.

He called on the public to cooperate in reporting any suspicious activity by calling the Aman service on (8002626).
