Simple tips to help you become a morning person

Who isn’t familiar with the proverb ‘early to bed early to rise’ but how many of us actually follow through it. As kids we always used to adore these proverbs and the short moral stories based on them. But as we grow up we become more callous and carefree. Night becomes our favourite time of the day be it for studies, having long chat with friends or watching movies on our laptop under the covers. And as expected we share the same routine as that of night owls active during the night, drowsy during the day.

But all this has got to change as you join college. There are early morning classes and you need to be more focused and attentive in college lectures than you ever were back in high school. Not to mention that waking up early in the morning has its own perks. You feel more active, refreshed and energized than the ones who rise up as the sun nears its peak in the sky. Waking up early morning holds a lot of health benefits and moreover, it’s better to develop the habit in college than struggle when you start with your first job after college.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you become a morning person –

Scale back your bed time

It’s a quite simple fact, if you want to wake up early morning then, you have got to go to bed early. Of course that would mean no late-night parties or hanging out with friends till late but it’s for your own good. But that doesn’t mean that you go to bed early one day and viola you’d wake up early the very next morning. Chances are that you might not fall asleep until your usual sleeping time. Hence, it is better to scale back your time in small bits. For example, suppose your usual sleeping time is midnight, go to bed half an hour early and set your alarm to wake up half an hour earlier than your usual waking up time. Follow the schedule sincerely, scaling back the bed time little by little over time.

Avoid Bright screens at night

Well this one for sure is easier said than done. As discussed before, young people prefer night time for studies, long chats or watching their favourite movies or T.V. shows. But the bright light of the screens of your mobiles and laptops are quite good at deceiving your brain and make it believe that it is still daytime and thus keeping you awake far longer than you should be at night. Try and avoid using your phones and laptops at least an hour before you are to go to bed. It will help you sleep much better and quickly when you finally go to bed. And it turn making it easier for you to get up in morning, for you would have had a much more relaxed and peaceful sleep at night.

Keep your alarm clock at some distance

This one for sure doesn’t need any explanations. It is quite obvious in itself, if you don’t keep you alarm clock right next to you, you can’t hit the snooze button again and again. And, even if you’d are to think of hitting the snooze button and catch a few more minutes of precious sleep, having kept your alarm clock at some distance would ensure that you’d have to get out of bed for that. And none would get out of bed again and again to hit the snooze. If you by any chance are interested in creative alarm clocks that force you to perform some sort of action to ensure that the alarm shuts off. Then you can google some interesting apps for the same.

Let the morning light in

Remember when your mother used to pull the curtains in your room to let the morning light in. How you used to pull the covers over your face to avoid the light but get up soon after, frustrated because the light had already broken your sweet dreamy sleep. As many of you might know our body is fitted with a biological clock that signals the brain to wake up with the morning light, making it best alarm one could have. So, sleep with the blinds open if your room doesn’t get to bright from the street lights at night. You could also open the curtains the first thing when you wake up to signal your body it’s time to shed the dreamy comfort of your warm bed.
