Koppal: Chaos prevailed at a Canara Bank office in Gangavathi in Koppal district when a group of protesting farmers allegedly attempted to commit suicide in front of reporters and bank customers.

The farmers alleged that the bank manager and godown owner had allegedly sold their produce in Gangavathi as they could not repay the debt. The farmers Anusayamma, Subramanya, Nagaveni, M Venkatesh Rao and Sheikh Kasim had raised loans worth about Rs 25 lakh from the bank in 2015. After they failed to repay the loan, the bank allegedly sold the produce without any intimation.

Venkatesh said that the produce was kept in a private godown. "We come to know about it after we received the notice from the bank," he alleged.
